How do I use tty for the deaf?
I know this is a stupid question but I am new to tty. Do I need regular analog phone service? I have always used sorenson vrs in the past never tty. I have a new ultratec superprint 4425 tty machine. Is that a good tty machine?

- Regular analog phone service is fine. Here is a good PDF file with common usage and abbreviations: http://www.ncdhh.ne.gov/brochures/how_to_tty_broch.pdf You can call direct to another TTY and type everything to a deaf person, or dial 711 to access the relay service to contact a hearing person. If you can speak but not hear, you can ask the relay service for VCO (Voice Carry Over). That allows you to speak directly to a hearing party, then you put the handset back in the cradle and the relay agent only types what they say back to you. It's a lot easier for you than having to type everything. If the party you're calling can speak but not hear, they can activate VCO on their end and speak directly to you (if YOU can hear). You can even request VCO privacy, then the relay agent will mute the VCO so the other party can hear them but the agent cannot.
- Have you ever seen video phone before? It's called V.P. .
- I use an Ultratec Uniphone and have been very happy with it. Ultratec phones are all used with regular analog lines. They cannot be used with business phones systems where you forward calls to other lines. All TTYs are used generally the same. You call a number and instead of speaking you type. There is a place on the phone where it exhibits by type what the phone is doing (ring 1 ring 2 busy answering machine, etc.) When a person you call picks up the phone and begins to type - that will show on this same screen.
- If you are trying to contact a hearing individual, you will need to through the relay service in your area (each state has them mandated by the Americans with Disabilities ACt of 1990). You will give them the name and number of the person whom you wish to speak with. The operator will read to them what you have typed and they will type to you their response. There is no additional phone charge for this service. You need a touch tone line although you can put the headset in the cups and then dial from the phone. If you have one directly to your tty you can dial the operator directly or another tty phone directly. Good luck.
- i dont understand what your trying to say? sorry can you be specific?
